FIAC is a contemporary art event held every year since 1974 in October in Paris.
For several days, the artistic and commercial exposure becomes the international meeting place between gallerists, collectors, curators, museum directors and personalities from the world of international contemporary art.
It is currently headed by Jennifer Flay.
Modeled on the young Basel fair , FIAC was the first place in 1974 under the name International Fair of Contemporary Art in the old station of the Bastille in Paris . Then it was renamed International Contemporary Art Fair and is held at the Great Hall before emigrating ( because of work ) at the Parc des Expositions at Porte de Versailles for many years .
FIAC returned in 2006 at the Grand Palais and also installs a complementary manner in the Cour Carree du Louvre . The number of international fairs has increased in recent years , forcing fairs already present to challenge and innovate. The launch of Frieze , the London fair founded in 2003 by the magazine of the same name , is a shock to the FIAC . Indeed , Frieze takes place in the same period as the Paris fair. The excitement and youth Frieze question the choice , probably too museum , the Paris fair.
Thus, in the 2004 version of the FIAC , with the arrival of Martin Bethenod and Jennifer Flay , a new section devoted to young artists is introduced , with galleries with less than three years of existence. Jennifer Flay , New Zealand respected figure for his aesthetic choices throughout the 1990s, also operates a fine selection of French and international galleries and attracts new foreign galleries to enhance the quality of FIAC and give revitalized.
